Doing an overhaul of the gear linkage on my T25.

How do I know if the selector lever should be replaced? It's the metal cup at the gearbox end of the linkage which the plastic ball sits in. I can see how the ball will wear being plastic but I can't see the cup wearing.

I did grab a replacement but now I'm wondering if the original is better quality. The original one has a ridge in it and seems like a more complex casting than the pattern replacement. So I'm thinking it might be better to leave the original one on there, I less there are any signs of wear I should check for?

The polymer ball picks up particles of road dirt when the boot splits and wears out the alloy cup quite badly, not the other way round!

Been there a few times. You have to knock out the roll pin and then heat the cup with a heat gun to make it expand a little, then it comes off the linkage rod (tube) easily.

A job best done on the bench, in a vise.
