Main Beam LED

Has anyone had a crack at changing the main beam LED in the instrument panel, mine doesn't work.
It was the same on the scirocco, and dead complicated (for me) to change, so I ran a wire from the headlight, through a resistor to a new LED located above the instrument panel, works a treat, but I'd rather do it right if I can.
Any ideas

Yep - done this. There are however problems that are not obvious straight away.
You can buy blue LEds, no prob there but blue (in the colour spectrum) travels the furthest (one reason why police and ambulance use blue) and you'll find its so bright its almost intolerable. You'll need to increase the resistor that allows it to run on 12v to find the right level of brightness otherwise everytime you switch to main beam, your face will light up blue!
In the end I dipped the blue LED in black paint and that solved it!

Main beam indicator is a small bulb, not an LED like the rest of the dash indicator lights. LED with inline resistor may be the way to go, will involve removing the dash pod and the printed circuit strip that they all attach to. Did mine without too much drama when the oil light LED packed up. Also managed to solder a take-off from the plastic printed circuit to sort out my non-functioning warning light system (circuit had a break in it somewhere so I bypassed it)
