Van keeps dying

Hello everyone
What a great place for great information, thanks to you all for sharing it's made what I've managed to do so far possible,I bought a 1986 t25 1.9dg late with knackered head, engine had been taken out and stripped along with all coolant pipes found donor engine running in van(chap was putting a golf engine in) donor is early dg,have rebuilt everything back to late setup and now can't seem to get it to run,it starts splutters and slowly dies,got spark got fuel,all new gaskets,filters,pipes, vacuum hoses,tried different coil,ignition module,king lead,cleaned and checked fuel pump,I am no mechanic have just followed to the letter some great advice on this forum so any help or advice would be much appreciated

More info required.

Does it run if you put fuel straight down the carb? And are you using the manifold and carb from original engine or donor? If from original engine then issue could have existed before you fitted donor engine.

Are you certain the donor is a DG and not a DF?

Have you set dissy correctly and leads go to correct plugs?

Tried petrol direct into carb same result it will run lumpy then slowly die,on the key depress throttle fully release slowly then start runs lumpy then dies,used original manifold and brosol carb, definitely dg donor has the bigger manifold ports, original dissy in donor set 5° btdc by eye number one lead on dissy being about 4oclock, previous owner drove van to garage with serious water leak where engine was pulled out and stripped to find head gone,so hoping problem is me not van
