Hi all.
1984 5 speed 1.6
Clutch slave slowly died, before it gave up the ghost it was obviously difficult to select fist and particularly reverse. New slave installed and bled. Reverse is now a forward gear! I believe that when I was "forcing" it into reverse previously it compromised the adjustment on the rod? Question is that does the middle joint need rotating (if so which way) or sliding in/out?

Or is there another likely culprit?

yep if 4 speed will need adjusting, assuming no damage to the guides on the front part of the linkage; see recent post in Syncro where my guide to how to do it has been reposted
there's also stuff in the wiki about how to do it
and we have a search function too

Thanks, its a 5 speed as stated at head of post. I have read many of the related posts and hoped to find out which way the adjustment needs to be made. Im partially disabled at the moment and have to drive to a hospital appointment Tuesday, so I was hoping to spend as little time under it as possible. I will continue to search..;thanks for taking the time to reply
 

Finally traced to loose nut on splined linkage going into gearbox.
