Dodgy gearbox?

hi, on the off chance anyone is reading this I’d like a bit of advice about the gearbox! I put it in reverse so that I could park, which means pressing down before you put it into reverse and then after that it wouldn’t engage any of the other gears. It seemed to be stuck in the up and down bouncy mode; after about 10 minutes it seems to be working again but obviously I’m a bit cautious about driving off - any advice?

It drove fine for half an hour gears all as normal including reversing, then we stopped. When putting into reverse to back out of parking space it happened again.

Doesn’t pop back into the main gear channel if that makes sense?

It is likely the nylon guide at the front, underneath the gearstick has broken so the stick is jamming on the underside of the metal plate that you slide along for 1st and 2nd, and go under to get reverse.
If you drop down the spare wheel you can crawl into the spare wheel carrier and take a look, it's pretty awkward to see, mirror or a borescope/remote camera can be helpful - you'll be removing the box that's restricting your view if you end up fixing it, but for now just take a look see
If the nylon guide(s) are damaged there is a repair kit for them available, Brickwerks sell 2 qualities, the more expensive one made by our own Ian Silverbullet is objectively better but you pays your money...
In the meantime pressing the gearstick down when coming out of reverse and returning to neutral from reverse will likely help
