Handbrake all to "cock"

Hi there, I went to adjust the handbrake and found the 2 into 1 cable compensator is at a right jaunty angle.

Before I proceed, I thought I'd just ask those who are more experienced if this is a tell tale sign of any one particular thing. I give the benefit of the doubt regards the previous owner setting it up so badly in the first place, not sure if that's so wise though, looking at some of the botches and lazy get arounds elsewhere in the van

The reason my hand brake isn't very good, may well be that only the one side is being applied when pulling the handbrake lever up  :?:

If anyone has any useful tips here, I'd much appreciate it  :ok

This one shows the extent of the out of sync-ness

They all do that.

However, if it were my van l would either pay for a rear brake inspection. Or, if capable, take the drums off and inspect for yourself.

The rear brakes when in good condition are actually quite good for drums, and hand brake equally so.
Douse handbrake adjustment rod with lubricant and release about six to eight revolutions. Do not break adjuster rod

Adjust rear shoes manually until wheel locks. Back off two clicks or until wheel can be turned by hand. Repeat for other side. Then readjusted handbrake rod nut.

It's all in the Haynes manual.

That wonky angle is how it should be if I recall right. As to how wonky is another question.

But if you look carefully where the nut mates up to the balance bar, the profile of the bar shows a deliberate angled seat, rather than a perpendicular flat.

I don't know why it's like that, but someone here probably does. Different distances to l/r Hubs?

The front cable isn't in the middle of the van hence jaunty angle of the bar.
