Softening fuel hoses

We've heard it all before - regularly check/replace your fuel hoses to avoid leaks (& fires!), particularly as modern fuels appear more aggressive to our ageing fuel systems.
As I'd replaced EVERY petrol hose last year (Gates brand) during the engine change, I must be in the clear, right?
But happened to notice the fuel hose was loose on the pump recently, even with the clip tightened up. Worryingly it appears the hoses have softened in just over 12 months.
Since replaced, but flagging for other members to continue to keep a beedy eye on our beloved vans, before the worst happens.

Separately, our T25 friend (fuel injected conversion) had an engine bay fuel leak last week, very fortunately a passing member of the public alerted her to a big loss of fuel in a car park. I don't have details but think she really dodged a bullet there.

The fuel injection hose from Brickwerks is top quality.
