Fuel tank paint

Hi all, I’ve dropped the fuel tank and it’s looking in pretty good condition (I was surprised!) just looking to paint it before putting it back on, is there any recommendation for whether I should prime it? I’ve got vactan for any bits of rust first, but should I then also prime it? And then what type of paint? Is smooth rite suitable here as less likely to chip? Or rustoleum? Thanks!

If you've got that smoothright already, then I dont think you'd need any primer. Just rub it down, get it dry and lather it on

I did mine with smoothrite, several years ago now, still holding up well with only a very small number of chips on front edge/corners. As said above get a good thick coat on
