1.7D timing marks, KY engine?

The family bus had a fail to proceed moment earlier and arrived back at SE Towers via flatbed. I was delighted when I got home and found it sat in the corner of shame.

Strongly suspect something has gone wrong with timing or valvetrain. I'm however terrified of how many bodges I am going to uncover whilst unmantling the engine...

First thing is to look at the timing marks, I've had a Google and found the following, should these be the same across all the diesels including the KY which I believe the van has (the full engine bay is our van so if it's obviously not a KY then please tell me!).

In theory the camshaft should be lockable with cylinder 1 (closest to me) libes at 10 to 2, then the clutch plate notch lined up with the pointer visible through the bellhousing hole? And the notch on the front of the diesel pump pulley matching the mark in the backplate at about 10 o clock?

Symptoms are that the van cut out on a downhill, won't start, and is backfiring from cylinder 4, closest to the gearbox. Nothing coming out of any other inlet. Also turns over v easily with a spanner compared to what I'd expect for a diesel, and only "poofts" air out once in a full cycle of two crank rotations by hand...
