I recently acquired a box of mixed T3 wiring, I have worked out whats what, appears to mostly have come from a '89 Caravelle (going by resistor dates and some familiar light metallic blue over spray)
I need to swap the fan wirring harness on my van because 1. minor damage after bodywork/paint and 2. going from 2-speed syncro (aka 2.1) spec to full air con spec.which runs the fan on low speed if the aircon is working.

I think they are actually the same thing and this one appears to be correct? Very heavy gauge earth for the fan, two conductors for the fan feed, heavy relay feed too.
Three wire switch connector etc.

Now identified as regular late 2.1 spec, however I do have access to this to identify the differences to adapt for aircon:

Going through bags and boxes looking for other stuff and I found this peculiar T3 fan harness, which has three conductors for a centre tapped fan resistor (plug removed, feed/earth to the fan missing) and two relays.
I am pretty sure that this is aircon spec

Could it be a pre-85 diesel loom.

43 is obviously the coolant shortage,
And the 24 is a generic high current 'general' relay.

I've never had anything diesel and any electrical stuff I aquired was from a friend who afaik only broke petrol vans. Bit of a mystery, got to work through the current flow diagrams for aircon spec to identify the additional low current two pin plugs.


Also it has got the 3-pin radiator switch plug, thought that was a late detail?

You may well be right, but the presence of the 43 relay (coolant shortage unit) on it's own relay mount tells me that it is an early part.

On 1986-on vehicles, the 43 control unit is mounted on slot 3 of the CE1 fusebox.

And on the diesels, there is a ballast resistor behind the left hand headlamp for the slow-speed fan position.
The red-blue and red wires are typical for all two speed fans.

A later loom would run the radiator fan via a relay and connector H in the CE1 fusebox.

K3 INTERNAL NOT USED BUT GOES TO BATTERY LIVE (30) RAIL - UNFUSED.

K4 YELLOW / RED COOLANT SHORTAGE CONTROL UNIT RELAY (J120) RELAY PIN 4 (86) and pin D29. (Gauge Temperature Sensor).

K5 BLUE / GREEN COOLANT SHORTAGE CONTROL UNIT COOLANT LEVEL SWITCH (G32) RELAY PIN 3 (85) and pin B14. (Coolant level switch).

Early Turbo Diesel diagram.

Have the air con wiring on vanagon originally 2.1 petrol 86 model, there is a single resistor behind left side lamps with 4 wires going to it. One red/black, two red and one black.

Thanks gents, having already installed the aircon main harness ages ago I now see that this one simply doesn't tie in, early diesel it is then. Autojumble for someone!
I do have one more lead to explore...

I have the equivalent T4 resistor (the only one now available, requires a connector swap which I also have in hand)
