I wonder, is it possible if you have the type and engine number to determine the year when that engine was build?

That doesn't look like a 1Y engine number - mine was 1Y705914

Haha, you're right, It's me who put 1,9D/TD in there.... It was cast in the block.

so; 1Y 368 772  is the engine number, what would be the build year?

1Y 368 772 is from May 1994, according to Etos engine number info for the VW Vento - obviously I have no idea what vehicle your engine came from but the Vento was the only VW listing with the 1Y engine with number in your range I could find - the Seats and Skodas with that engine don't have the engine number info in Etos and I think the Audis had moved on to the AEF variant by then

Thanks, the guy from who I obtained this engine told me his mum had a VW where this engine came from, I thought it was a golf, but then, it was a long time ago.
