Hi there, I hope you can help me..
I have a 1988 vwt25. I am trying to get back on the road and it’s not far off.
2 things I need help with and they maybe linked.


1)
The blue coolant temperature sensor is attached to two loose wires with rather bodged connections.

Can anyone link me or show me what the this sensor should be connected to?
If anyone could provide a link to purchase that would be great also.

The bodge job must be working as the fans come on after a few minutes but I need to do a better repair.

2) the temperature gage next to speedometer doesn’t work at all.. is this an easy fix?

what engine has your van got ? and what year ?

Yes the one that was possibly in its own housing originally but now it looks like this.

I think this might have been in its own housing with a connection but I cannot find any such connection plug to connect with the two pins on the sensor.

Then the problem with the gage not working in th cab.

The fans have their own temp switch on the radiator.

The sensor in the engine bay does the gauge on the dashboard.

Best way to test if wiring is OK, and the sensor is at fault, is to short across the connector for a few seconds, and see if the gauge moves up to hot?

Its wither a 1.9 carburettor or a 2.1 efi engine. There was no 2litre watercooled engine.

You’re right.
OP mentions blue too, so maybe is injection

So it looks like temp 2 sensor for 2.1 fuel injection
you should have a black one just like it on the other face of the thermostat housing which is the water temp sender for the dash

The plug that's missing is this one, part number 443 906 232 , in blue, one groove in the top to match the 1 raised rib on the top of the sensor
it should have a rubber boot 810 972 525 and two jpt terminals inside, earth wire is brown/blue strip and signal wire is grey

You added parts numbers but where can I find the catalogue for these numbers.

It is not a fuel injection just a standard.

I have the blue thermo plugged in the water pipe then I am missing the plug connector that you have shown covered in black housing.

Where can I find this part?

So its a carburettor 1.9 engine then. DG engine code. Do you have a Haynes book? Its the bare minimum that you'll need to work on these vehicles.

I do have the Haynes book but there’s nothing in there about this.. I simply want to buy the full connection to the sensor I have in place.

It’s 1988 and 1.9.

the plug I put details up for is the one you need for your blue sensor - the sensor is the one that controls the manifold heater circuit on a 1.9 DG engine

the black box icon with the i in it next to the smiley face icon visible at the top of the dialogue box is the pretty self explanatory image uploading technology, using Imgur to upload from your computer or I guess from phone (I don't use phone, I use a pc)

I have Etos parts catalogue on my pc, you can find parts catalogue on 7zap your vehicle is a Typ 2, choose year as appropriate

This is what it looks like at the moment.

You can see that the sensor is plugged in.. and the wires with connectors are loose.. these attach but don’t connect properly..
I simply need to know what is the original connector in housing and where I can find this.

Thanks Aiden, I think my vehicle is not a type 2 but T3-T25.

Make sure you get the pins and rubber boot that are separate.
