Ring connectors are rated by the mounting screw hole size and the mm2 of the cable. And that depends on which cable and the year and type of engine.

As above, but won't exceed the CCA rating of the battery,  which will give you a guide value.

According to the V.A.G. service manual, relating to a 1984 DG vehicle :-
The red/black wire to the solenoid is 4mm²

I suspect the eyelet will have a 6mm hole through it, and should be rated for a 4mm cable.

For info,
The red wire directly from the battery is 35mm²,
And there is a 6mm² red wire to the main black junction box stud.
Both are linked or attached to the starter with 8mm eyelets.
And at the junction box it is a 8mm eyelet for the 6mm² cable.
