is my maisie 1.9 dg slow?

How slow should a healthy 1.9DG Be?   Down in alton staffs and theres a few challenging roads.

Maisie really struggles on slight inclines, having to drop right down to 2nd for something like a 20%

on the flat she will eventually get to 60, 70 at a push

Is that normal or under performing? the ignition timing may me compromised to cater for lpg/petrol.

interested in this too!
i also have a 1.9 Dg, i have been 70 in it (only once as i dont want it blowing up) but it will easily cruise at 60 - 65 if i want to.
( i drive at 55 mainly  and thats around 3000 rpm)
but then the hills come..... and the speed goes away! when i head down to Cornwall there are a few hills that require me to drop down to 2nd to get up them  unless i've had a good run up to them!

70mph for a 1.9DG is about right although I don’t go over 60 in mine and she gets there quite easily on the flat. I’ve got a set of Mansi 1:35 ratio rockers, and after a top end rebuild is pushing out 85bhp so has a bit extra pep going uphill:

Sounds similar to Vinnie.  Once up to cruising speed he's happy, but add an incline and he's immediately slowing down.  Just very little torque in our DG's for propelling 2+tons uphill.  And we have a lot of hills in Argyll - sorry to all other road users!!!

Nelly does struggle with inclines, dropping into 3rd or 2nd if I have to, however she will get to 60-70 in the end, but with only 78 horses, we don't really expect much more and stick to around 55-60mph on a flat.

Sounds like Maisie is normal then, I switched over to LPG this afternoon, sometimes she pulls better on gas. And as I came to the "TEST" Hill, I got stuck behind a bus...

We will just have to lean forward harder.

Cheers

2nd gear for a 20% incline would seem normal for my DG too. ( ABN or ABM 5sp box though )

There are a couple of steep hills near me I can get up in 3rd as long as nobody in front of me slows down
( I don’t think they are quite as steep as 20%, but steep enough )

I’m not weighed down with woodwork inside either. Motorway I would usually cruise at 60-65mph which sits me at about 3.2-3.5k revs.
