A couple of advisories from last MOT in October.

* Offside Rear Outer Suspension component mounting prescribed area damaged but not considered excessive Sill box section (5.3.6 (a) (i))

* Slight corrosion on both rear chassis rails.

Removed o/s/r wheel and gave it a clean up today. Digging away on a crispy bit near outer suspension arm mount this hole appeared.
Your advice how to remedy please.



Also, underneath of both chassis rails look a bit nasty. Cleaned up o/s/r and rust treated rail. But found this on the underside.
Again, what options to repair. Back to bare metal and bridge weld to close hole? It's about 4 x25mm gap.

With find good metal and close it up. Then a coat of protection. I have some underseal somewhere in the garage.

The hole by suspension arm will need more investigation. I reckon there is quite a lot of corrosion to uncover.

Ideally the thicker part wants chopping off then the thinner plate repaired and the thick piece welded back on

That's a common part that goes mate and will need constant attention - I got Tom at Eagle Auto's to sort mine out. Might be worth putting your finger up inside the trailing arm bracket as well to see if it's crispy there too (this isn't usually picked up by the MOT tester).

Checked all four today. No crispy-ness found, if that is such a word.

Worms and cans come to mind....

I’d suggest having a look around the front of the jacking point too, especially on the inside edge where it joins to the front surface of the cross-member, just in case there’s more that wasn’t spotted. That’s going to help you with deciding what to do.

To be fair, it looks in pretty good nick (certainly compared to mine) and cleaning back to shiny then welding a patch on may well suffice.
