Type IV conrod options...pic heavy

So I've been sidetracked into a Type IV build lately and have been thinking about changing the conrods
It's an 1800 so has the 55mm crank journal and a 24mm gudgeon pin
On the left is the WBX then the TYPE IV then the 311B Beetle




I remember years ago Jake Raby commented on using the 311B beetle conrod as there are so many options available in the aftermarket, however the pin size is 22mm so needed custom pistons. The good news is you can then specify what compression height you need
Have a look on the Summit Racing page as they will make you anything if you can't find a workable match
The standard type IV conrod looks like it belongs in a diesel tbh being incredibly well made for pushing a 2 ton bus around but it's heavy compared to a more modern conrod
I compared a WBX and 311B beetle conrod to the Type IV and took loads of pics






Yes I know this isn't how you measure a conrod but for practical needs I wanted to get a better view of how the differing rod lengths would mean to my deck height in the piston bore




Also looked at the weights for each since I had the opportunity to borrow the kitchen scales...



I've decided to build a high compression motor and do an upright conversion using the stock rod and a SCAT cam after all that, makes no sense to change the rod. Considered a turbo or supercharger build using the 311B rod but it's just getting out of hand!
Using a 2.0 rod that has the 50mm journal may have better choices available but I want a short stroke motor at this time
