After Market Head Unit

Hi all,

Thinking of removing the stereo and fitting a head unit which has a touch screen and android auto capabilities.

Seen some on Amazon which are single din, which I'm guessing will work?

Just unsure of size as I can't measure the space with the old unit in as my van is in the garage.

Any help would be great.

TIA

Andy

It's quite tight at the back so the longer units may require a surrounding spacer,

spacers are available on the net (sorry no photo).
I think there are also head units that have less depth requirements.
However, it may still have to protrude a bit to clear the overhang on the dash so the spacer may still be needed.

I have a head unit that does not fit well , but have a seperate 10" screen to provide Android auto that works well.

It uses AUX in, but can use FM transimtter mode instead, so you can retain whaterver you have at the moment.

For me this is better than a all in one flip out as the sreesn is useable.

I was looking at those as well. I've been using (or rather trying to!) the headunit reloaded app on the play store, just have issues with trying to get the WiFi to connect, so using either USB connection and Aux cable to the current stereo, which the sound won't always work and comes out of my phone instead of the stereo.

If I just use a tablet and my phone as WiFi hotspot, I can use maps, YouTube music etc. But the call function isn't there, but not really sure if that's really important to have as I don't normally get a call that needs immediate attention.

I was just trying to not have wires all over the place looking untidy and getting in the way.

Generally I am realy quite pleasse with the 10" Screen solution. Ocasionaly it won't connect to my phone and the volume is quite low ( and you can't have different voume for audio and navigation ) . but for what it cost I can't realy complain.  I can also move it to another car very easily.

Thanks Rob, what Im thinking now is to use my tablet and my phone as WiFi hotspot and have maps, music etc but not worry about hands free calls, in the end if it's something important they'll ring back!

I 3d printed a spacer for the 7" pull out screen head unit in mine. Fits perfectly now and I don't think looks out of place either.

I got this from Ali express - 45 delivered in a week. Fits perfectly. Some have an offset face so wont fit the slot symmetrically. Thats with car play, rear camera, bt calls, phone charging.

Cleaned all wiring up, fitting rear cam and works a treat. Took me best part of a day mind.

is the screen not a bit too small for satnav?

It looks good, how is it in operation?

I use my phone for sat Nav, the screen isn't much different to using a phone.

I bought a screen from Temu for Android Auto and it is totally useless. It is so slow that it basically doesn't work. Cheap and very Chinese. Too slow to actually work and very poor screen colour and brightness. I bought it for fun really just to see what it would be like. It is a shame too as it is made really well but the electronics inside must be at least 10 year old technology.

In it's defense, it was only £18! There is a good reason why Alpine ones are hundreds of pounds.... they actually work!!

This is the one I bought for £45, auxin on the old "Ripspeed" DVD ( could have done FM and it worked well )

It does the job fairly well, my £250 Pioneer in my transit is not vastly any better than this setup.
