I dont know our VW T25s enough to say, but what I can see is that they use concentric wheel nuts.

am I right in guessing the wheels are not centralised to the hub by the wheel centre hole ??? 

if so, when switching to alloys with plain flat washers, what centralised the now alloy wheel to the hub ??? 

bolts and flat washers cant do that right 

Have you got a picture of the wheel nuts , some alloys have a flat washer and the bolt goes through the wheel to centralise it

That is what the new alloys ive just bought (second hand) have 

only bolts and flat washers rely on the centre alloy wheel hole to mate up with a hub (ie hub centric) 

the VW T25 is wheel nut centric NOT Hub centric

I have had similar wheels on a car years ago. The nut was not a simple hexagonal nut with a taper at one end. They were longer than usual, hexagonal for about 2/3rd of their length, but round for 1/3rd. The round profile fits snugly into the wheel holes, thus centering them on the hub. Correct wheels are centered on the raised lip in the center of the hub however.

You need the correct stepped bolts
