ECU set up and Subaru select monitor 1 Bristol

This is my ecu set up in my van.

I’m trying to work out how to use it! The image in the instructions I have show the OBD socket (yellow), two read memory connections (black) and two check connectors (green).
I seem to be missing one of the black read memory connections.
I’ve connected the two green ones and turned on the ignition. I get various clicking sounds but no LED flashing either around the ecu or on the dashpod. Am I missing something?
Also, does anyone in/near Bristol have one of the secrecy monitor 1s I could use to diagnose an engine issue? Happily contribute something for the time used.
My van is stuck outside my house not starting. Been looked at by a mobile mechanic who has suggested it’s a timing issue (maybe too much spark?). He says the engine is turning freely when ignition coil leads removed. When they’re not it’s back firing and giving of blue/grey smoke.
He had a brief look at one end of the timing belt and turned the engine over and said it seemed ok.
