Right had a. Few problems with slow starter advice was change bush this is on a to do list
But I started with the alternator got a brush kit from brickwerks and fitted it to my perfectly running van I know the brush pack had been in there for years more than ten now the output is 13.5v but the charge light stays on I need this van this weekend please reply all appreciated

I was just doing what I thought would be easy maintenance I seem to have made things worse

What id do is get a multimeter and measure the main battery voltage when the engine is off. Start the engine and see if the voltage goes up. Mine sits at 14v when running, which I thinks the correct voltage it should be sitting at. If it goes up then its going to be an issue with the warning light wiring, if not then the alternator isn't charging right.

If the alternator is fine you could just leave it and fix it when you have more time..
Id check the blue wire from the alternator and give the terminal a clean.

Refit the original brush pack, if the light goes out the new pack is faulty

Starter bush is fairly easy to swap

From my garage fitted the original 45 amp alternator this was ok over 10 years ago
same red light stays on
Was only changed for a 90 amp because it’s a gipsy and need extra amps this is the one with the new pack 12 v at tickover only goes up to 13.5 if I put the headlamps on red light stays on

Put the alternator with new brush pack back on still the same red light stays on
When I disconnected the alternator unclipped the earth on stater battery but did not disconnect the solar or leisure battery
If I have shorted out the blue wire to red light how do you fix it Is there a fuse or diode that can be replaced. Electrics not my strong point. Thanks

Shouldn't have done any damage to it as far as I know.
What id try and do is disconnect anything extra that you have on the battery and just see if the light stays on then... it may even be the dashpod side with a dodgy connection on the blue foil.

Had a man come round with several multi meters and he suspects earth problems
So tomorrow clean all earth straps and attach some more failing that new alternator

Dash is hard wired slaughter house kit

Yes that side of things have been good temp gauge problems are all on here
Today fitted new earths one from body to engine one from starter to engine
Restarted engine light still on. Put 12v power to blue wire on alternator and light goes out which makes me think wiring is ok but output is low at alternator so have ordered new alternator for Monday

Duff diode in alternator could cause it. Dry solder joint on the diode possibly.
