Can anyone tell me what the maximum wattage an appliance can be to run on a campsite hook up please? I've not used our electric hook up before!

depends on the site ,

most sites are ok for fridge, 1k heater and portable TV etc ,
there was a thread that explained how to work it out
also look on the caravan and camping web site , i'm sure its on there

We're going away at easter and really need to take a heater. I've got a blow air heater that has a 1kw or 2kw setting on it, and was hoping to jus run it on a thermostat on the lower setting overnight. Do you think this will be okay then? Not planning on using anything else at the same time.

llike t'onion says, depends on the supply on the site, but most uk site will be good enough to run a 1kw fan heater....... just dont use the microwave oven or the kettle or the toaster at the same time......

Multiply Voltage by Amps = Watts
E.g 220V x 6 Amps = 1320 Watts = 1.32kW so a 6 Amp feed or more will comfortably run a 1kW heater.

The trip rating varies between 3A and 16A!
Most UK pitches will be in the upper ranges 10-16A. (~2Kw-3.5Kw). Super-pitches even higher, French sites among the lowest.
In practice this isn't usually a problem for the purpose you describe. The most useful heaters for your purpose have 2-heat settings with thermostat (preferably with a frost-stat setting too). The lower heat setting will be 1Kw = less than 4.5A, and very few sites will trip at less than 6A.

Hi Miss Marple
It's also worth checking the rating of the cable you run from the hookup to the van and the internal stuff before you go. You can get a plug that lets you plug in your hook up to a normal 13A socket for less than £10.

Be careful of what rating your `van has been wired to as well. OE Westy has 10A breaker fitted as standard, and the wiring to it and out of it doesn`t look to be up to more than 10A safely, which should be fine for standard installation.

Still in sunny Oz Max. Not much luck spotting any mint T25s though

Saw a nice blue `Velle the other day in Fremantle, but not much else. This place seems to be where all the old Bays come to die (or not, maybe the UN-dead) loadsa old Bay campers about, usually ruff as....
Back in the land of green at the weekend, so will see if me `van starts after 6 weeks under a cover
