Plain yellow = the buzzer of doom pressure switch (0.9 bar or above).
Blue / black = the oil pressure warning light (0.3 bar)
Yellow / red = temperature gauge sender
Blue / green = coolant shortage sender / switch.
Brown = chassis / ground.
Black = ignition live

Right had a closer look at the wires and there is
one brown
One red/yellow
Blue and yellow together
One black
One brown/black
Any one tell me which goes where I'm a complete novice on these engines thanks.

Sorry to correct you, Rob. If lm right, then normally...
Blue/black trace wire goes to blue switch 0.3 bar. All petrol WBX T25's are fitted with this one between pushrods.
Yellow wire to grey switch 0.9 bar under waterpump known as buzzer of doom fitted to engines (check serial number) after 1985.
Buzzer run by green wire to No1 on coil.

Its okay...
It's actually Steve you are correcting.
I gave the colours...
Steve gave the locations.
But you are correct to point out the correct oil pressure wire locations.
Low Pressure Oil Switch hidden by push rods.
(Blue / black)
Higher Pressure Oil Switch (Buzzer of Doom / Dynamic Oil Pressure) near the water pump.
(Plain yellow - no stripe). On later engines.
Unfortunately VW did a bit of daisy-chaining coloured wires to brown wires too.
Just to keep things interesting.
