Hi

I am having some trouble timing my CT 1600 air-cooled engine.

I have a power spark distributor SDVA.

I was told to set the dizzy up as follows....

30 degree BTDC @ 2700 revs. Vacuum pipe capped off.

I have made a timing mark as follows...

Pulley wheel circumference 62 cm.

62 divided by 360, means 1 degree is 0.17

X30 is 5.16 , so mark should be 5.16 cm Infront of TDC mark.

Put strobe light on number one lead. Start engine get up to 2700 revs and turn dizzy till new, 30 degree, mark lines up with crank case.

Is this correct?

The engine just cuts out and stalls when get near to this. Am I missing something?

Is that setting for a beetle, type 2 van engine?

Many thanks.

Hello there,

Still at it??

Are you still running the twin carbs??

Set your timing at about 8 to 10 degrees BTDC at tickover, carb vacuum plugged, at about 850 tickover.

Then check your advance at higher revs with the vacuum pipe connected...

Towards the end of this video you will see what I mean

This is an old video now, I am filming a new one currently...

Cordialement,

:ok

Hello Sarran,

Yes, I have fixed the leaking carbs, just need to set them up properly but I wanted to get the timing right before I went any further with the carbs.

That's great. Will set it to that. To be honest I think that was roughly where it was to get it running.

Many thanks.
