Hi, we have just got our first campervan, he is a T25 1986 water cooled. Glad to see this site exists for us virgin campers!!

Please could someone advise on the pros and cons of fitting power steering as quite heavy when parking.

I wasn’t sure how to write a ‘new post’ on the site so have replied on here.

Check your tyres are correct type and size and tyre pressures are correct for the tyre and van

If you use the 10 to 2 hold on steering wheel as originally taught for driving test and shuffle the wheel again as taught, they're really little heavier than most cars.
Check also a smaller steering wheel hasn't been fitted.

Otherwise you have original hydraulic p.s. option requiring new rack, front to back hoses and p.s. pump and bracketry, all available 2nd hand...
or as everyone has said, the electric p.s. option.
i believe theres a company on the South Coast that's done many T25s successfully

Brilliant help for manoeuvring but slight disconcerting wander on motorway, fitted a switch in dash so I could switch off if required.

Replace the little black box controller with one of these:

It automatically varies the assistance with vehicle speed, just as the system was designed to when fitted by vauxhall originally. Totally seamless. I have a kit fitted to my Syncro and it's brilliant

Fitted this and never looked back! It requires no mods, just a bolt on kit and automatically varies assistance with load.

£70 as opposed to £5 for switch & cable etc, sorry but I don't think so. Might have been better if it was installed along with the original kit as I would not have noticed then  :D
