Hi, so, as the title implies.. does anyone know what this hook is for.. its just hanging there flapping about which doesn't seem right.. pic taken from the rear wheel arch, T25, 1986 1.9DG

ah, ok thanks.. will have a look see if I can find a line/cable that might fit in it!

 

I think you'll find that its a support for the heater hose - the smallest one in your photo - that appears to be twisted around the next smallest coolant hose.

As Silverbullet said. It is for the thin hose on your pic
Probably it was cut shorter before

thanks both. Im assuming that as it's been cut short it doesn't need to be supported by the hook ? Or is that something I should look at replacing with a proper length ?
 

Or you could just extend the hook to do the job ……

Should we all have a hook like that?

Looks like part number 251721582A still available from VW listed as hook for accelerator tube for DG engine.

Nope, but as the hose was sitting on the one I had seemed like it was the right bit for the job.. but then again could be for the Throttle Cable..
Not something I'm bothered about replacing, if I want to secure the hoses if they become an issue I'd make brackets

It is.

The one for the hose is a bigger double thing above the gearbox, and is in a perpendicular plane to this one. It supports the heater hose as it crosses over to the left hand side spigot on the big coolant pipe to the thermostat housing (or back of head on the diesel). So it's not that.

Hmm maybe I have a smaller diameter pipe there.. I should check that.. or someone retro'd a different hanger for it
