Hey y’all,

I just noticed that the front mounting bolt for my solex 34 pict 4 carburettor was loose as I could even wiggle it with my hand alittle, soon I realised the threads in the carburettor was stripped/bad so I could not tighten it up.. that explains why I felt some change in the cold startup the last few days iguess.

So my question is what is the best solution for this problem, aluminium weld the whole, and drill to the same size to make new threads? drill it out and put a nut on the top and bottom? or put in helicoil?

Helicoil and Loctite would be easy and permanent. I don't know the Loctite numbers, but you want the permanent fix one, not the type that softens when warm.

Well for an easy fix, just drill right through and use a suitable M8 nut and bolt. This is what we used to do on beetles..back in the Dark Ages.
While you are at it, get some new gaskets..

Why is every screw head on the carb so badly damaged.. even the existing mounting nut is butchered..

Yeah I’m not sure what’s up with that… , but I managed to get a insert thread in there, and it sits perfectly now

In case this wouldn’t work I would most def put a bolt trough with a nut, but now I could use the original one just with a new
