Fibre glass repair kits

I intend to attempt repairs to the bottom of my doors using glass fibre matting. Having used it in the past I found the matting bits separated making a mess. There are other mats in the kit which look more easy to apply I think they are referred to as fibre glass tissue, are these just as good and strong as the more stringy type. Thanks in advance.

You can get a woven fabric type of  fibre glass, I have used it with resin and seems to give a smoother finish and can be built up to give a decent thickness

Thanks, wondering if the matting I have is for a different purpose, it still requires the resin and hardener but does not separate so much as the strand type.

Back when I use to do a bit of composites (15 odd years ago) we used the tissue as the layer next to the gel coat then the chopped strand mat on top of that. Tissue was very light something like 30 or 50 gsm where as the chopped strand mat was anything up to about 450 gsm. The key to making it strong is to get 100% consolidation with the minimum amount of resin. You can also get woven roving which is like a cloth but I don't have much experience of using that. Once it's cured it can be sanded, filled if required and then painted.

Personally I wouldn't use it for that application as I would prefer to weld in new material but that's not to say it won't do the job.

Still progressing with bottom of door repairs, cut offending piece off and trying to patch. Is this an MOT failure if left untidy. Looking on line for replacement doors but looks as if they all rot in the same area.

I doubt that corrosion at the bottom of a door is an MOT fail.
