Which Dissy do I need?

Hi all, Some of you will know by now from my previous questions that I've just fitted a latter type DG 1,9 into my tin top.
Not without a few problems along the way!

Anyway today we finally got it started vut not before several and one rather loud misfires.

Found that the leads were all in the correct positions but the Dissy was 180 out :rofl  Took out the dissy and turned it round and it started!!! But Mechanic friend said you shouldn't be able to put it in the wrong way round as it's supposed to be offset?

But you most definitely can OR is it the wrong one as it's the one from my earlier engine??????

Head scratching going on here

Will it run well with an older dissy or do I need one to match the engine?

It’s quite common for rebuilt engines to have the drive for the dissy 180º out , you can simply rotate the leads 180º and time it accordingly .
A different dissy will not solve your issue, i suspect you haven’t seated the dissy fully , as your mate is correct , the drive is offset .

Ah so it really will only fit one way round ok.

Are there different ones and if so would it make any difference to the running of the engine?

Would using your later one improve the running of it do you think?

Shouldn’t be any different as far as i know
The difference is between DF, DG , DH and DJ, SS, MV engines not age related , although happy to be corrected

So if the difference is between the different engines ie: DG or DF say how do you tell which one you have?

I think for a DG the code should be 025 905 205 Q or C suffix. ( from another thread. )

Those should have a single port vac unit on them.

I think the confusion here is mentioning 'age' but really I think you are asking if you have the right dizzy for a DG, irrespective of age.

( Feel free to correct me if I am wrong. )

No, you're not wrong on that point but no one has actually answered the question regarding the difference having the wrong one would actually make?

The advance / retard curve would be wrong in respect to timing at different points of the rev range?

I’ve never tried it, but imagine that looks like flat spots and reduced power.

The last thing I want is reduced power  :rofl

Should be OK as have the Powerspark electronic kit with Viper coil and vacuum advance anti pulse valve on it's way :D

I have a 1.9dg engine with a weber 34dat carb.
Its running ok atm. But i started to think about what i would do if the dizzy gives up. I carry other spares but i dont know enough about this bit.. though i have set the timing myself bit it was a while ago now, and was parrot fashion without true understanding of the full mechanical science.

Anyway.
ive identified my current dizzy as a Bosch 414, 0237023007.... with vac advance.
Which i believe is normally found on a 2.0 Aircooled. Mine is obvs a watercooled 1983 1.9 dg.

So,
Does this matter ?
Would it run better with something else.?
Is it only the vac advance that would be different?

Note ,
If i recall..
When setting the timing, i took the revs up beyond the vac effect to set it. But i dont know at what revs that was.

Any advice welcome.
