The carb is a Pierburg 2E3, if it is running ok apart from the idle then you may have a vacuum leak in the flexy hose for the brake servo or distributor vacuum advance pipe, If you want a reconditioned carb then the best people are 'Bromyard VW' see google.

There is a good rebuild video on u tube by James Akers. You should be able to buy a rebuild kit from Brickwerks

If the issue it to do with the carb it's more than likely just needs cleaning or a rebuild. Not something that you need to replace the carb for.

Thanks for all the info! Unfortunately the guy who works for bromyard isn't able to help right now. I have spoken to my mechanic and he asked if I can get the kit and he does it himself. ill send him the youtube video too just incase he needs reference. Thanks all

Check for vacuum leaks everywhere, as has been mentioned. All the vacuum hoses, the vacuum advance unit on the distributor, both of the pull down units on the carb, the brake servo connection and hose. Probably best to do all that before starting a carb rebuild.
