On the thermostat housing 2.1 dj there are two sensors one black one blue
I have the black towards the front of van and blue at the side is this correct
Also the blue sensor has no plug fitting just the two wires black and black with purple will it matter which terminal in the sensor they go on. Thanks

Today finished fitting the new engine from Campershack did the breaking sequence as advised but the temp gauge in the dash did not move is this connected to my first question engine must have been up to temp as the rad fan kicked in

I am sure the black and black / purple wires are for the ECU.
Which should be the blue sender unit.

The gauge sender should have a yellow/red and a brown wire going to it.
The gauge sender is the black one.

If you have no yellow / red and brown wires, then you have no connection to the gauge.

As for the orientation of the blue and black senders, I don't think it matters, as long as they are both wired up. They are both very close together on the thermostat housing, so the coolant around them will be at more-or-less the same temperature

Thanks for the reply yes the black and the black purple wires do go to the blue sensor but because it has no moulded plug is it possible to fit the wire on wrong terminal on sensor thanks

It is a thermo-resistor.
The resistance is the same between the pins at any given temperature, in either direction.

So the simple answer is -
No it does not matter which way round you connect the pins on the blue ECU sensor.

With reference to the other query about the temperature gauge not moving from cold.

You did not clarify if you had the wires from the black sensor.
The yellow / red and brown wires need to be connected to this for the gauge to work.

Other than that, a common cause of a non-functioning gauge is a faulty fluid shortage module (No 42 or 43) relay in the fuse box. Or a defective, loose, dirty earth on the earth crowns.

Or a knackered blue dash circuit foil.

Now my latest observation the wire connections to the carb are different from the Haynes manual is this ok in the manual the manifold heater and carb heater and choke are all linked on mine this is not the case

So you're running a 2.1DJ on a Pierburg carb?

I think that blue sensor should be red then, to operate the manifold heater and carb heater etc?
( I don't know if the red and blue are functionally the same, or even have same operational range )

 

The blue sensor is for fuel injection systems and won't work with a carb setup. The carb version is a red unit (fitted in the same place in the thermostat housing) which is a normally closed switch, opens when warm switching off electrical heating circuits in manifold and carb.

This sounds good but my 1.9 dg had these sensors one black and one blue do I have to change any of them now that it’s on a carb with 2.1 dj

Just had a look on brickworks were is this red sensor

So I fit this we’re the blue sensor was with blue sensor wires ok

Why did my 1.9dg have and work perfectly with the blue sensor
