Hello still having problems with smoke, when i put my foot down, on my 1.6 td jx engine, has anybody removed the pressure regulating valve from the Bosch Ve diesel pump to inspect it as i have read that if the piston and spring come out they can cause problems.
My question is if i remove it will i have to re-prime the pump will it draw in air?

How much smoke , how much are you labouring the engine, what RPM are you running the engine at , what colour smoke ?

Removing any fuel system components with result in air in the system and bleeding

Smoke is bad at about 4000 rpm, under load  or just revving, here is a video of it running https://www.youtube.com/shorts/YWHIv3ItM-4
Smoke color is blue/grey
This is what i have changed or checked
Compression test (cold) 380, all within 10%
New Injector nozzles and washers
New Turbo, have disconnected the inlet to manifold pipe still smoked.
Changed pump timing was originally .92 now 1.0mm
New fuel filter
New pipe from tank to pump
Retarded mixture so much it wouldn't pull, still smoked.
Engine has bee totally restored, re bored, new pistons rings, valve stem seals etc etc.
I am at the stage of buying a new refurbished pump, what i dont want to do is buy it and the problem still exists.
The van starts on the button, dos not like being revved when cold with or without the cold start lever, you can see the rough idle in the video, but gets better when warm.
Any information will be gratefully received
Thanks.
