1.6td head identification please

Hi Club 80-90 experts.
I have a 1989 T25 1.6TD with a cracked cylinder head. The engine that it is supposed to have in it is a JX 1.6td
The garage fitted a JX cylinder head but discovered that there was a difference. An oil channel in the bloc diverted into the coolant when the JX head was fitted.
I'm having difficulty identifying a replacement. Can anyone help?
Here are the marked up heads, where you can see the difference.
This is the JX engine head. (Incorrect part)

This is the head I need to replace. (cracked head)

Also noticed, but not marked up, in the bottom right of the picture there should be 4 holes instead of three.
Many thanks
Mike

Are not markings on the damaged original head. Of manufacture and engine. Its usually cast on the head.
Email AMC directly as they make the heads and ask the question to AW Engineering,

There are no markings on the head. The engine code has a plate that is too badly rusted to read. I will contact AMC.
Thanks

This has cropped up before methinks, somewhere in the distant past I recollect a post about it. May be worth a search of the forum.

I have contacted VW and AMC and await reply.
I have also looked at every VW/Audi 1.6td cylinder head on ebay and none of them are an exact match. None of them have the four holes in the corner of the cylinder head, that can be seen in the bottom right of my picture.
It's a mystery.

FWIW, to me that 4th 'hole' looks more like gasket material or something stuck to the head, there's no depth to it.
Are you sure it's a JX and it hasn't had an engine swap at some point as your old head looks like a 1Y or AAZ for instance?

Put the pics together so that it is easier for people to see, like this:

Audi and Golf 1.6TD was the SB had different head to the JX
SB head 068 103 351 AK
JX head 068 103 351 K
and different blocks
the JX was optimised for running canted over at silly o'clock like the KY

I am going to the garage tomorrow and will confirm if it is a 4th hole or some gasket material.
Are the 1Y and AAZ engines 1.6td?
The JX 1.6td head did fit and run, it was just that the oil ran into the coolant.
Many thanks

1Y and AAZ are 1.9
the block should have cast into it the capacity 1.6 or 1.9 and TD, but not all TD blocks have the TD I believe, block should also have engine number and code stamped on the pump side below number 3 cyclinder on a flat surface, rebuilds from Darwen engineering often have a plate added as the code can be indistinct

left is for hydraulic lifters (eg. JP engine code) - AMC 908118 referenced to 068103351AA (ETKA lists: 068103351G casting), but there are a few other partnrs used
right is for solid lifters (eg. JX engine code) - AMC 908108 referenced to 068103351AC (ETKA lists: 068103351K casting)
it seems like cross reference codes are not consistent

Some Audi, Golf and Passat cars, generally slightly earlier models, also had the
RA code 1.6TD engine. Apparently it had a similar block to the SA but with a similar head to the JX, i.e., solid tappets.

good call, much closer to a JX as same valvetrain, but different head and probably block too

The best people to speak to are probably AW Engineering in Darwen - they understand the different variations of 1.6TD so I’d expect them to be able to help you.

I've found the identification stamp on the head. It's 068 103 373 T
I can't seem to find a built up AMC replacement though.
