Big Black Omega Clips.

I wasn't sure if this is a bodywork or electrical topic.
I am looking for a source for the large black Omega clips that hold the big loom to the chassis rail under the van.
I can see all sizes upto the yellow omega clip - approx. 24mm dia on various supplier sights, such as Bresco.
But these are not big enough to take the main front to rear cable.
The old / donor cable (1987 DJ loom) had a few knarled and broken black clips fitted - possibly 27mm dia.
Any ideas please?
I am tempted to fit rubber coated or plastic P clips, with plastic expandible rivets....

VW just list a cable tie as a replacement in the parts catalogue, there's usually a pair of suitable holes 4.5mm x 200mm size works for almost every application and trim to length when fitted
it works and is cheap and easy to replace if you have to work on the loom again or add in other wiring on the same route

Ah okay.
It sounds a bit half-hearted to resort to cable ties...
But if VW identify it as satisfactory, and as long as my potential MOT inspector agrees that it is an acceptable method to "secure" the cables to the vehicle. - then who am I to argue.
Thanks for that dear chap.

It is very much appreciated.

They're ties and they hold cables.....
I doubt my MOT tester would worry about them

I know what you are saying, but better safe than sorry.
Not all inspectors are the same (testers discretion), and I have met my fair share of biased numpties who dislike older vehicles...

If you look inside the engine bay of even a modern car you will find cable ties.
As long as you can secure it to the body via a hole no issue at all.
I know we can all be a bit OCD.

Ah yes - O.C.D.
I do have a lot of O.C.D; which has rubbed off from my wife. She is a nightmare.
Now you mention it, the injector loom in my Cavalier is held in place via cable ties with retaining pegs.
To be honest - they are probably a lot more secure than omega clips.
After the number of years and rediculous expense that I have been, and still am throwing at the van, it would be daft not to try to restore as close to original as possible - hence my initial query.
I am happy to go down the cable tie route.
They are a lot cheaper too.

cable ties with lugs were also used on the T3, easier to fit than the omega type plastic clips which is probably why they were dropped especially in the larger sizes and heavy cable run positions in VWs process of continual development based on feedback from the people on the production line -
the mad variety of clips used in production reflects the difficulty/ease of popping the stuff together, some it fits to the body or bracket and the cable then is fitted, some is fitted to the cable and then simply popped onto the supporting surface, some are glued some or rivetted most are just single use as they get broken when removing

After a bit of a faff with an ebay vendor cancelling my order, I ordered these from somewhere else for half the price...
£5 for 50, delivered.
Received within 2 days.
Should be enough to do the whole van.

Maybe I should have read this first.
(Scroll towards the bottom of the page...)
https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewt ... &start=120
A lot of reference detail as it is a very extensive restoration thread.
I lost half of this morning, reading the first nine pages...

If it helps anyone, a search term for these on eBay is "Push Mount Cable Ties" This seller does at least tell you what size holes the mount will fit
121948324370 and as always there are other sellers, widths, lengths and prices.
Another type are "Screw Mounted Cable Ties" if you have a need to screw or bolt them down - either through a hole in the end of the tie, or via separate screwed down flat mounting plate or curved cradle / saddle, or a separate screwed down eyelet. The last two means you may be able to use your own cable ties.
