Rock and Roll Bed with Caravelle Cushions

I have a feeling this may be a stupid question. The caravelle I am working on has no rear seat, I have the middle seats but not the back ones.

I am looking to put an R&R bed in, and to remove the middle seats for a day van / occasional overnight camper conversion. The van needs a complete internal refit, not exaggerating when I say it was used to keep chickens in, so restoring it to it's GL loveliness is not really an option, but I like the look of the seats and it seems a shame to not use them.

I've been looking out for multivan beds and caravelle beds, but there don't seem to be many about. Has anyone used a Rusty bed (or whatever) with the seat cushions afixed from the middle seats? Or is this utter nonsense?

Thanks.

Not a bad shout, the front seats need recovering anyway so it could all be matched in and look OEM-ish. Will have a look, cheers.

What colour caravelle GL interior? The blue balear velour seems more common and do crop up.

The full width rock and roll caravelle seats aren't easy to find.

Show us some pics using the image button next to the smiley emoji button.

Don't judge the awful state of the van, lots of work to do still... These are the seats I have, I was thinking of taking them apart and fixing the foam cushions to a full width R&R bed, but I am not sure it would work on further inspection. I think the best option might be to get the R&R bed, then just have the seats covered in a matching fabric. Unless some Caravelle rears do pop up in the meantime?

Cheers.

It is the blue-ish Balear velour Caravele Gl up to '86 I think. Later it was more gray rather than blue.

There were full width options, so not impossible to find. However the shades often not match between years.

last year there was one for sale in Austria:

The rear caravelle seat can be converted into a rnr bed with the use of the genuine vw mechanism, these are still available but the price has doubled since i purchased one to do the conversion, the seat base needs to be narrowed a bit and reinforced to bring the spec up to correct strength, the basic caravelle /bus rear seat without armrests and flat foam base would be the best for the conversion but its a lot of work and expense so its best to get an original vw seat bed unit.

Thanks all for the replies - I think I'll dump the mid-seat conversion idea and work on finding the OG Caravelle bed. I've got welding to do for the MOT first, so I should really focus on that anyway.

Many thanks all for taking the time.

You may have the money to splash out but most people dont, be realistic instead of trying to rip people off.

Steady on mate. Where has David attempted to rip anyone off? All he did was say to expect to pay a certain price. He is not offering to sell anything.

don't confuse being unwilling to pay the going rate with the going rate being wrong, but please explain further exactly how I'm ripping someone off?

The going rate is not £1000 for a vw rnr seat bed, you know it isnt, we dont want over inflated prices and when interior parts are sold on they should be cleaned , no body wants other peoples dirt and bacteria .
