Hi guys,
Scary experience at the weekend
Took my 18month old son out for his first trip in my van (start them young)
He was safely belted in the front seat next to me and i locked the passenger cab door from the inside

Not 5 minutes into the journey and he pulled on the ‘open door latch/lever’……cab door swung open…heart skipped a beat, engine was fine

Should that have happened?

Should the latch down/door locked not have prevented this or is this a feature of these vans?

If it is, anyone know how to disable it, so that you would have to ‘lift up/pull’ the latch upright in order for the door to fully unlock?

Most (all?) modern cars, if the button is down, you can open the door with the internal lever. Usually have to pull twice, once to unlock, once to open. Child lock will disable the internal lever, but you don’t have that on the cab…

Not aware of a solution that doesn’t involve removing the lever.

I guess you could rig something to cover up the lever, child proof but not adult proof…

No it should not open from the inside with the button pressed down, ive just tested that on my caravelle, the lever just doesnt engage with the mechanism.

as Si says button down the door pull should not operate the lock or open the door, so your passenger door lock may be foobarred, it has the part number on it once you get it out (quite easy), they do vary between LHD and RHD as the drivers door can't be locked from outside by pressing down the button and shutting the door, but you can do this on the passenger door, so the left and right locks are slightly different between LHD and RHD, you can use the wrong one but you will lose the ability to lock without the key from outside
