Hi

Here is what the manual has to say

Image

The Main Battery should be connected to terminal 1 & 2 and the Aux Battery should be connected to 3 & 4.

I can check it out on my van if you get stuck.

I will get my meter out tommorow, and make sure it does what it says on the tin.

I presume if I disconnect the read and black cables from the leisure battery and put switch on zig to charging/touring then start the engine and put a meter on them it should read 12v!

If you leave everything conected and put your meter on the battery with the engine off you should get 12/13 volts. Turn the engine on and this should go up, perhaps 14v.

You could then futz with switches until the battery voltage does go up.

It sounds to my like something has blown, either a fuse you didn't see or a relay somewhere. It's more tricky with these proper Zig type systems running the charging.

I've tried the meter on engine off then on same reading! what terminal on the zig can i put the meter on to see if a current is coming from the zig?

Do your 12v services in the van; lights, pump, etc. work with the switch in onsite position? If so then the battery is still conected to the Zig. Above Willoughby says terms 3 and 4. Plug it into the mains and see what you get on those terminals and is it diferent to what you get with the engine running.

how easy is it to add a zig unit?

the charging from the engine is by switching in the van battery via the touring switch it puts the leisure battery in parallel so both batteries are charged from the alternator. switch the on site touring switch to on site and check you have 12v on the terminals for the van battery on the back of the zig if its not there check the line fuse from the van battery if its been wired correctly there should be one. if it is there then switch it back to touring with the leisure battery disconnected and check you have 12v on the leisure bat terminal leads, if its not check the leisure bat terminals for 12v on the back of the zig if its not there then the switch is faulty. if it is there the leisure bat should have a line fuse. if there are no fuses there must be a break in one of the cables or bad connector. hope that make sense

Yeah I think that makes sence! Tommorrow I will take the zig out and test the terminals! Does that mean if I put the touring switch to charging but the engine is off I would discharge both battery's?

yep when in touring it will draw from both batteries, there's no relay to isolate the van battery as in the 'split charge / fridge' setup

Well when I put it in touring it does'nt use the van battery so I recon the problem is the connection between the van battery and the zig!

That sounds right. That would prevent charging from the alternator but not when on 240v.
