Hi all

Silly question time.

When dropping my gearbox out from the van, I noticed a huge amount of movement in the rubber of the mount at the front of the box.
Not particularly any up down or side to side movement - but more an axial movement.
The whole box could be rotated approx 15 degrees clockwise or anti-clockwise when looking from the rear.
Obvious thought is replace the mount.

I visited the wonderful toy shop that we all know as the Brickerks web shop.

Brickwerks list three main options -
A - 1.9 wbx manual and Aircooled.
B - Diesel and TD
and
C - 1.9 wbx auto and 2.1 auto and manual.

So here is the daft question :-
My van has a 1983. 4-speed DT manual gearbox originally coupled to a DF 1.9 wbx (now defunct).

Plan is to couple the DT box to a 1987 DJ 2.1 engine.

So which mount do I use?
A - to match the original box, or
C - to match the planned engine?

I am tempted to think A...
But I am always happy to be corrected.

I just made this choice about a week ago.

the ligther engines (Aircooled and 1.9 boxer) use a rubber of about +/- 60mm

the bigger engines (diesel and 2.1 boxer) use the bigger rubber (about 75mm)

I would advice you to take the bigger 75mm bracket and a new rubber (or a powerflex one). Reason: because you are planning the bigger engine. For what i know you keep the bracket on the gearbox as it is.

I bought myself a powerflex, there are many topices on the internet with reviews on them with our busses.

I presume a lot is to do with the torque transmitted through the clutch as it takes up drive.

It makes a lot of sense to put a 'beefier' bush in the mount for the bigger engines.
Going from a DF to a DJ is almost double the bhp.

I was asking as I was not aware of the difference in bush diameter - but I am now.

That said - would it not be better to upgrade to the bigger bushed assembly anyway, regardless of engine size.?
BUT - It does specifically state in the blurb - not suitable for 1.9 manual gearbox.
And the DT is just that -a 4-speed manual from a 1.9 van...
I was probably over-thinking it, about a difference in fixture hole pitch or bush centre-height.

After all - I live in a world governed by the "law of sod".

I know that I am being pedantic, but interpretation and wording can make a huge difference.

is the term -
"not for 1.9wbx manual gearbox^
the same as
'not for 1.9 wbx engine fitted with manual gearbox'

apologies if it sounds like I am being picky or arsey.

if it is the bigger 2.1 version, then I know Brickwerks are sold out.
Schofields are showing stock though

sorry, I was just agreeing with the posited position. If it was me I would fit the larger 2.1 and auto variant in your situation, in rubber.
