Fitting new steering rack non pas

Hi posted my query on wheels bit so doing it again: bought replacement rack from jk for my 1985 1915 dg xplorer My mechanic friend has found the splined input shaft is half a mm smaller than the one it’s supposed to be replacing. JK not being helpful at the moment. Do you know if there are a few different sizes in circulation? And diameter shaft should be? Obviously can’t fit this rack😡. Any suggestions??

return it and get one from elsewhere ? seems strange that they have a different fitting though, they state made in UK, but Brickwerks sell the Meyle brand version, you can ask them about fitting

They rarely fail, what’s the issue?

JK don’t manufacture them, folks want cheap JK supply

There are a lot of inferior quality and badly fitting aftermarket parts available out there. My point is that, in my experience, you're far more likely to get one of them if you buy from JK, so I stopped doing so long ago. That is all.

Does the non PAS rack fit exactly in the locating holes for a PAS version and is the connection onto the steering rack the same as the PAS version?

I want to revert to a non PAS rack as I'm fitting an EPAS system in readiness for a full EV Conversion

Thanks

fit is the same to the body and to the front uprights but the linkage rod from the steering relay to the rack is different, solid shaft of different length with the rubber coupling set up at both ends instead of the UJ at the rack as you have with factory ps set up.
Why change from hydraulic to electric ? I see EV conversion, wow - is that the Syncro in the workshop in Newtown or something else ? Syncro and 2wd are different lengths
I might have one of these for 2wd used, I'd have to check, they are available new from classicparts and the rubber coupling and flange are available from Brickwerks

I have a non-power steering rack for a RHD if you need one.
I fitted power steering a few years ago - sure I still have the old rack in the garage.
