Just as a matter of interest, why do diesels have the battery there and not under the drivers seat?

Diesels require much higher current due to their higher compression and glowplugs. The larger battery won't fit under the seat, and the voltage drop from higher current demands a shorter, fatter lead to the starter motor, hence the battery is right next to the engine.

I have always relocated the main battery to the void infront of the tail lights. It frees up valuable storage under the drivers seat for one reason , and shortens the starter main lead by three feet or so Image
