Securing spare wheel on wheel carrier

I am trying to find a single locking wheel nut which uses a Yale type key, rather than a special tool.
Used to have one on our Suzuki SJ which had the spare mounted on the back door.
Needs to be taper seat for Penta style alloy wheels.
Any ideas? Are they not as secure as matched tool type nuts?
Otherwise I will just have to buy a set of four and use three of them on the carrier...

Our spare wheel carrier has a central tube that passes through the centre hole of the wheel, which has a hole drilled in it that takes a standard padlock. There isn't sufficient space between the rim and tube to allow the spare wheel to be removed from the carrier without taking off the padlock. The tube has an added benefit in that it helps take the weight of the wheel while you line up the bolt holes with the carrier studs.

I am thinking along those lines, but would like to put a high level brake light in the centre of that tube ;)
Dont much fancy a padlock rattling against my nice alloy wheel...

Would a standard locking wheel nut in place of the bolt that holds the carrier in situ work. Would depend on the thread and diameter of course and length of thread. Just realised that somebody could still get a purchase on the protruding part.

This is a rear mounted wheel carrier (its actually going on the tailgate) so I am looking for a simple, discrete, elegant (?) solution.
I suspect that I will end up with a smaller size of U-lock passed through an unused stud hole in the wheel.
A bit functional, but effective.

Yes, I see what you mean, different fitment to mine, plenty of choice of U locks available for bikes which should fit.

To prevent padlock damaging rim, take a pice of silicone hose and cut it into a ring, then squeeze it over padlock to pad it.

Is alloy wheels being stolen still a problem, I thought now that they were a lot cheaper that nobody bothered stealing them anymore.

It used to be a common thing, even in the backwoods where I live, but you never hear of it nowadays.

A very good point. The Land Rover "One Life" mob seem to be paraniod about it with their big expensive wheels and tyres.
I am more worried about my 5th matching (rare!) alloy being lifted.
Remember all the square headlamp and big mirror thefts?
