The heater motor on my 1985 T25 has started to make an occasional chirping sound. Does anyone know please, is there a way to lubricate it (WD-40) whilst it is in place. Or is it a case of heater box out and take it apart. With some older cars you can just get at the motor with maybe some tubing to keep it lubricated, was wondering if I could do that with my van. Thank you.

It’s not that hard to change to be honest, I’ve done a few , can can try spraying wd40 or silicone spray through the air vent in the front of the van whilst running the fan, sometimes works, the bearings an oil soaked bush rather than a traditional bearing so it’s possible to just re-oil it but it would require the dash out for access

That sounds interesting and worth a try, please can you specify which vent you are meaning.

Wd40 is a water dispelling fluid , so even if you could get it in there it’s not the stuff for the job long term

Lubricant too, it has many many uses , long enough to stop the squeak for a while

Pull the upper grille off, there’s a plastic mesh , pull the mesh off , it leads into the heater

Magic, thanks very much! I agree with you, WD-40 is an excellent lubricant and can extend the life of many things, especially if used frequently.

Hopefully a bit of lubricant might work, mine started making a similar noise or more like a squealing, eventually on the way back from a camping site I smelt electrical burning along with smoke appearing from the dash, switched off the motor but have been unable to remove/repair it due to a couple of screws in the dash near the windscreen which refuse to budge (separate topic raised regarding this sometime back).

Think I may need some more info on this please. I've had a quick look, there is no mesh behind the grill though, once the grill is off I'm faced with the radiator, do I need to remove this to gain access to the blower fan?

Take a picture with the grille off and post it up

When you remove the top grill there should be a black plastic mesh covering what i've circled. That's the vent into the heater box

Thanks for the replies. I see, so if I spray the lubricant into that vent with the fan on as previously mentioned, it may work it's way into the fan. Worth a try, thank you.

Yeah , pull the plastic mesh off for better spray access
