Newbie numpty question got a crew cab with a 1.9 DF

engine with a 4 speed box. What sort of top speed should I get, at the moment it will only do 105 kph with the pedal nailed to the floor, is this about right ?? I hope not as I will need a bit more than this.
thanks colin

				Oh dear, 65.625 mph!
Should do more than that, 75mph at least
Was there a headwind? Does it seem to pull well otherwise?

Hi harrymann and peter thanks for your replies its on liquid gold peter

on gas its running near enough the same as far as I can tell and we always have wind in the thames estuary

I have done new plugs, fuel filter, rotor arm, dizzy cap, stripped the carb was a bit of crap in secondary jet even stripped and cleaned the dizzy just in case timing seems ok. crewy accelerates ok compared to the bay and my deisel escort just seems to hit a rev limiter at 105k

its my own fault I got the engine codes mixed up when I was looking for the bus

wanted a few more horses so if this is near to normal I guess I shall be looking for a 2.1 or something a bit rice burnerish

Just a knackered engine then

All sugestions for whats wrong gratefully received I knew I should have stuck to Aircooled it was the speed and heat that seduced me lol and crew cab bays and splits don't look right

First out, get a compression tester from somewhere and see what you have there, cold and then hot after a run... should be interesting. The DG's in good nick go really well, but have no idea what the diff is between them myself.

my DF topped out at about 65 (fully loaded high top), but compression was going on number 3 for most of the time I had it running, got a DG lump now waiting for post run in tune up to find out if we can now hit 70....

Right found my compression tester took all bloody day

tip of the day: dont move sheds then expect to find anything, been looking for my multimeter for a couple of weeks went and brought a new one

Got freinds down for the weekend so it will be Monday before I can do the test so Monday evening could well see a grumpy old git posting

Hi All didn't get a chance to do the compression test been looking at poxy tiles and bathroom suites for the monster in law

and looks like tomorrow will be a no go as well

On a brighter note filled my gas and petrol tank to the top and worked out my mpg

about 19/20 on petrol and 17/18 on gas

is this normal sort of figures?? and 500 kilos of tiles don't make em faster either

Sounds a bit down on both MPG and speed - mine managed 27MPG/70 flat out in standard form (normal petrol), now has DG carb and does same MPG but can touch 80 (driven hard MPG is probably lower but have not been far enough fast to be sure).

WWOOOHOOOO managed to do the compression test lunch time

not good number 1 is only 7.25 bar

  2=10.35, 3=9.66, 4=10.00 bar

think my engine is foobard or at least number 1 head has a burnt valve or knackered rings and the other 3 are getting near the limit for useful life.
So what are my options rebuild the DF 60bhp

, get a DG and rebuild it, I know pete has one for sale

or get a DJ 2.1 and rebuild that but I would need everything including the injection gear unless you can set em up to run on a carb. Any of the above but get a recon engine from Vege, BBT etc or grovel to the monster in law and borrow some money (until we sell our bay) and go the scooby route and have done with it, I did email TSR last evening with a few questions in anticipation of crap test

 .
So your opinions please gentlemen and ladies but no slagging or flaming cos if you do Jill will jump on you

and that can be painful cos she always gets your dangley bits

DF always was a bit of a gutless wonder.
If you already have an LPG conversion on it, I'd look for a DG or poss a 2.1 and Carb it. You'll need to rejet but its prob the cheapest option.
