Hi ye-all.
Just snapped the head off one of the nuts holding the water pump mount to the unit. Alternator needs to come off but cannot access the two hidden bolts behind the main bracket that holds the alternator in place. Dont tell me the fuel pump etc has to come off please. Any ideas.
Hope everyone is having a nice day

A few phots would be useful, this is the normal method for uploading them.  Use the black icon with an i in it.  indicates  imgur  when you hover over it.

As you can see hopefully the two bolts holding the alternator bracket aren’t, as far as this fool is concerned, accessible without removing the fuel pump etc. Or are they? Is there a tool? Head hurts thinking about it.

Can you get a socket on, or a cut down and thinned out socket, or use a wobble extension, or brutalise a ring or open ended spannner?

I had to do this a few months ago on a diesel. I believe there are 3 bolts that have to be removed, I could only get to 2 of them without removing the the fuel pump. Because of the angle, I ended up rounding the head of the 3rd bolt too.

If you can change a cambelt, removing the fuel pump isn't that bad. Just takes time.

Good luck.

Cheers guys.
Tried everything. No joy. Fuel pump off it is then. Never done a cambelt on my own before so should be interesting.

This is going from bad to worse. In danger of rounding the allen keys on the shaft pulley now. Managed one but too scared to try the others as I've slipped out and cannot contemplate rounding any of them. Sometimes I just wonder What the blithering heck I bother. Nobody thanks you do they?

Common problem with allen key bolts is that they fill up with dirt therefore not allowing full depth of the key, worth giving them a good uck out, ensure key itself is tight and fully in the hole and of course use plus gas.

Ive neverneeded to remove the fuel pump. Thebracket the alternator sits in is ithink just heldon by one or2 bolts it then separatesfrom the actual water pump.
