I know some of you guys have made your own cab bunks using the little brackets you buy in THE caravan shop, and screw these onto the actual door. Is there anythign stopping me from attaching these to the pillar between the front window and side window? I'm thinking a little lower down from the grab handle maybe??
I don't want a gap between the bed and windscreen where summer could fall out. I'm thinking that I'll then use a third pole higher than the one on seatbelt column which will act as a wall to stop her falling out.... what do you think? Will i do any harm screwinginto these areas?

The grab handle is screwed into the pillar anyway, so I should tjink it's OK to screw a few more fixing points.

I am intrigued by the idea of a cab bunk... can anyone fill me in on what I would need to make one?

I'll have to measure it and see if the width will fit on the column between windscreen and side window. Wasn't sure if screwing into it as the brackets require would somehow weaken the column or not.....

I know the bluebird ones fasten here, but the bracket is smaller and totally different i think. I want to make my own canvas bit as i'm going to put an extra bit on which will look like the side of a travel cot (ie with mesh), so pointless buying the bluebird one really as all i need is the brackets and poles, and i have some that will possibly do....

I'm thinking this contraption will probably last her a good 10 years if i get it right now... Van is currently at timbertechs so can't measure yet, but if it works it might be a good solution for those of us with babies.... providing i won't weaken the frame of the vehicle by screwing into it that is...[/img]

Katy never rolled out of ours,then again she was a little older than Summer.

I wouldn't go drilling into the van, when you already have something to attach to ,the grab handles , you could extend the fabric to stop summer from rolling out like you say , just get a long long bungee cord and use that to hook into the grab handles and on the t'other side the seat belt fastenings

Thats brilliant, thanks guys. I had been eyeing up coat rails in Homebase, and wondering if I could use the D fittings and a couple of metal poles...but was worried about fabric, more so my ability to sew something which will not fall to bits in the middle of the night, but the idea of using a camp bed solves that problem!
Looks like thats going to be my job for the weekend!!!!

matts came out of a old CI sprite caravan , just needed shortening, saved all that hassle.....

Aldi are doing a rear seat cover for cars , dog thingie ,which look like it be just the ticket for converting into a cab bunk , i've just seen it in the Sun (saturdays)( i'm at work don't really read the sun) , cant see it on the Aldi website
