Hi there. The lights on on my Caravelle 1986 dashboard are not working. Does anybody know what fuse the dashboard is, or how to find a map of the fuses?

We will assume you have checked the dimmer control is not turned right down ( to the left )

are the lights in the heater control illuminating ?
the dash lights are on the same fuse as the side lights .

what year is your van ???

Hi there. It's a VW T25 1986 Autosleeper Trident. Thank you for the fuse maps, but I cant see one for dash lights. Everything else is working fine.

They are a bit dim and even more so in daylight, as MOCKI said have you checked the dimmer wheel, also for information when I changed my lamps.

I  had this problem and found that it was just a connection problem.

There should be a white oblong multi connector about 50mm long under the dashboard, behind the steering column. This  should be accessible without taking anything apart (check to see with a torch) if no modifications have been carried out.

So, I switched the sidelights on, moved this connector as if I was disconnecting the two parts. As I moved the two parts the dash lights flickered back on again. Problem solved. Check this option out, before taking any major action. Let us know if this works for you.

Come on you superhoopsaaaa.

Just had it fixed - a loose wire apparently! Well pleased.

My 1990 T25 Autosleeper developed this problem last night. All lights working fine, all other dash lights working fine except the instrument lights - speedo/clock dials and the full/water/beam lights. With ignition OFF and lights on, instrumentation works fine, with ignition ON and lights on, no instrument lights and turning the dimmer wheel simply sequences turning the full beam and oil warning lights on and off. Hoping it’s just a loose connection somewhere. Any advice gratefully received

Had a chance to take the steering column cover off this morning. No obvious loose connections. Pulled the instrument cover around a bit and hey presto, all lights back to normal which I guess can only mean a loose connection in there somewhere. Will need to check that out when I get home as I don’t want to risk messing anything up while it’s working (for now) as I will be travelling in the dark tomorrow. For the minute - Phew!

All fixed now. The problem got progressively worse with the wind screen wipers only working when they felt like it, door lights doing the same & the radiator fan not coming on. I took it in to a mechanic & he told me the wiring had become dodgy (apparently a common fault with old van?). He rewired it all & ever since all has been working perfectly. Thanks for your help & advice though.
