Windscreen wipers

Drivers side wiper smudges the screen about 3/4 way up during sweep, ok above and below this point, no damage to blades which are 18" in length, not sure if an MOT issue. Windscreen appears clean and tension spring looks ok so wondering if a recommended blade make is needed.

Have you bought expensive wiper blades? My partner's Hyundai Kona was the same. It smudged on the drivers side on the downward stroke. I tried the best and expensive Bosh wipers and they were the same. I concluded that the better wipers were too stiff and the centre of the wiper applied little pressure on the glass. I bought the cheapest wipers I could find from a discount shop and they work fine. The most expensive are not necessarily the best

Thanks sounds like a similar issue, I bought the RAC ones form B and M, the type where you change the fitting to suit your wiper arm, I also had another one in the garage but a different make but same size and this smudges in the same place on the windscreen its as if when it gets to that point on the wipe, it lacks pressure to clear the area.

I have always used a 20" and a 21" on my van.

Thanks, my Focus has 21" blades I will swop and see if it rectifies before buying new ones or just swop for the MOT if it does (Joking)

As long as the wiper blades are not physically damaged , and they wipe across the screen it won’t come into the MOT

So tried the wipers from my Focus but that just moved the smudge to a different area, put original one back on but this time gave the windscreen a good cleaning as well as the wiper blade.  There must have been some grease or dirt in that area although not clearly visible as now the wipers are giving a clean sweep with no smudges.
