Hi hoping you lot will help out once again!! took my vwt25 1.9 water cooled on a c plate out for the first time on sun did say 100 miles weather was great loved it, i did however notice not always but a fair amount of the time when i took my foot of the pedal i got some chattering almost back fireing (maybe was) and when put my foot back down it dissapeared. apart from that drove great. im thinking timing might be just out maybe or need tune up  any thoughts as to what it might be. thanks

Leaking exhaust perhaps

As above. Start it up and get a wad of cloth pressed against the tailpipe and you’ll soon know if you hear any hissing underneath.

When you say first time, has it be sitting idle for a while could be fuel issue or related.
