1700 ky diesel watercooled Aux belt sizes ?

I need some help please,
I have the above, have had the timing belt sorted by my local guru but we are struggling to get the correct v belt size for both the crank to WP and the WP to alternator,,, we thought we had but the crank/wp V belt went after about 600 miles we had used a avx10 x 638 , it squeaked now and again around start up but soon went.
Have we got the wrong size belt, cant find a definitive anywhere, or did we not tension the belt at the WP two piece carrier (shims) ?
Any advice on proper belt size and how to set the sim adjusted pulley would be grand,
