Attaching an awning to T25 high to - help!

Hi all, hope you're getting out and about this summer. We have a 1987 high top T25. We wanted to buy an awning like the one shown here: https://www.winfieldsoutdoors.co.uk/van ... ay-awning/

However, we don't have a rail to attach to, magnets won't work and the suction attachments get terrible reviews. I guess we can attach something to the van that would then attach to the awning, but not too sure about how that would work.

Many thanks in anticipation of your assistance. Cheers! Robert

Figure of eight on gutter rail. We leave permanently on gutter

Or metal c rail riveted slightly higher up to prevent joining tunnel snagging on sliding door.

How do you manage to keep the figure of 8 strips at that angle, when I try the canvas just pulls it away from the guttering, mine is a side elevating roof so cannot use the c rail fixings.  Apologies in advance for jumping in, but first time Ive seen a comment regarding the positive use of the fig 8 strips.

Hello TT25T25,

To be honest lve never thought about! Its takes some pushing to get it on in the first place. So l just leave them attached.
Do you have the black metal trim on gutter edge?

Hello tks for getting back, no black trim but think i know where you are coming from as this would thicken the gutter edge.

:ok
Its the black trim that keeps the figure of eight in uptilted position and secure.

Tks, Ive been struggling with this apparatus since owning the vehicle, will invest in some trim I think or fabricate a similar item.

Put a photo on here of where you want to attach the awning, somebody will no doubt have a similar set up and advise you. Good luck in getting a drive away awning, at the moment they're like hens teeth.

This is the answer to your problem. They're sold as one piece, so no gaps, lines or edges. I painted mine black to keep in with the colour scheme. £84.99. All you have to do, is slide the figure of 8 strip straight through when you need too; the attach the awning.

Always prefered a pole and clamping into the gutter with a drive away awning, seemed more forgiving when reconnecting after being off for the day.

P.S. they all seem to snag on the sliding door at the rear,so be careful when opening the slider not to rip the awning :ok

I had an awning rail pop rivetted and bonded with Sikaflex 512 onto my hightop (Seen running along the top of the decal on the high top). It worked perfectly. I think I could have just bonded it on though as I recently removed it and the Sikaflex could have easily done the job on its own!! I am going to fit a Fiamma F45s roll out awning now. These have the slot along the outer edge so a proper driveaway awning can be fitted if necessary.

Forgot to mention, my camper came with an awning of good quality and about the same age, issue I have is it snagging on the sliding door as already mentioned by others, even though quite high and with a connecting hood it still sits below the gutter when fixed and taut, hence the snagging on the door. I suspect if the awning had longer poles it would be above the door but then the figure of eight fixtures would be pulled out as they need to benefit from a downward pull by the awning to keep them in place.

hello - slightly unrelated I'm afraid - could I please ask what type of rail you used and where you got it from? I'm struggling with the magnetic type of fixing for the awning on our Devon moonraker pop-top

many thanks

Simon
