Hi all

I am in the process of upgrading my dash cluster and have hit a snag! A part of the dash board has got plastic snapped off of it where screws should go to hold the lights in (indicator, high beam , oil etc)
My issue is I do not know what it is actually called to try to find a replacement.
Can anyone tell me what it is called ? and if they are still able to be bought?

thanks for the reply, i did have a look on the parts emporium site to see if he had one but couldn't find one there.
I'll mail that ebay guy and see if any luck there!

I have repaired many like that, it is a common problem with all the self tapping screw locations that secure the instruments and the LED warning module. I use a 3mm drill and drill into whatever remains of the original hole to a depth of around 8mm and then use an M4 tap to thread the hole. You can then insert a M4 stud (or cut the head off a 20mm long M4 bolt and chamfer the cut edge), add a bit of locktight or super glue. M4 nut and job done, takes just a few minutes if you have a 3mm drill and M4 tap. I remove all self tappers when refurbishing dash pods and use an M4 tap then replace with studs/nuts or 15mm M4 threaded screws - this relieves the stresses on the ageing plastic which has age hardened and become brittle.

Nice Angelo, that cluster looks soo much better than what ive just installed! wish i had those kind of skills myself!
I may give the drilling and tapping a try just for a bit of practice.
But have ordered a new one now, , thanks multisi  for the part number. much appreciated!

now onto the next problem! Does the to do list ever get smaller !!

Speaking from an engineer's perspective.
The correct drill size for a 4mm thread should be 3.3mm.
or for us young 'uns -near as damn it 1/8"

I would also probably work on the plastic whilst it is warm - a bit more supple and less prone to further cracking or breakage.

I agree though, it does look a lot smarter.

And use epoxy glue or similar...
In many situations, Loctite will react with ABS and similar plastics.
